Turkey Hunting

Deer Hunting | Turkey Hunting | Buffalo Hunts

Hunting wild turkeys requires stalking and camouflage skills and knowledge of turkey habits to lure a gobbler within bow or shotgun range. Wild turkeys on the ranch usually are found in large flocks consisting of adult females and their young. Adult gobblers are often seen in separate flocks in smaller groups or individually before joining the late winter concentrations. A typical day for a fall flock begins and ends at the roost site and the rest of the day is devoted to feeding and loafing enroute to or from the roost site. Roost sites are often used for long periods and experienced hunters should look for concentrations of droppings, upper tree limbs without foliage and broken upper branches and limbs.

Popular roost sites on the ranch are often below the wooded ridges, on pine-covered hilltops and the river bottoms that allow the birds to glide into the roost trees in the evening. Successful turkey hunting depends on different strategies based on the time of day and weather conditions, and we will be happy to assist you in many ways including pointing out their roost sites, feeding areas and other sites frequented by the flocks. Because is it so important to field dress and cool a bird quickly we will make any necessary accommodations.
